Carmiel Children's Village

The Carmiel Children’s Village

The Carmiel Children’s Village was established in 1978 and is located in the beautiful mountains of the Galilee. The one-story houses in the Village, with their red-tile roofs, the lovely lawns and flowers, blend beautifully into the pastoral atmosphere.
The Carmiel Village is the largest of “Hamifal’s ” Homes and raises 235 children,
aged 5-15, in 20 family-units. There are also 3 Teen’s Units for the high-school students.

Our goals are to rehabilitate these children by means of a home and a family feeling in a unique family-unit model which is a substitute for the biological family, that is vital for a child’s moral growth and development. This model enables us to relate to each one of them individually and to promote his/her self-esteem and his abilities to overcome educational, cultural and social gaps.

In the Village operates a unique classroom for newly absorbed children. This class is designed to help children narrow their learning gaps and promote them so they will be able to meet the requirements of regular schools of the community within 6-12 months.
In this class the children are working in small groups, or by individual teaching. Each and every student has a “tailored made” individual program according to his level and his individual abilities and advancement that determines the pace of his progress.
The studies subjects are in accordance with school curriculum.

In addition, an impressive “Animal Corner”, which recently became an attraction for Carmiel’s residents, as well as a computer room which contributed by “Rad Data Communication. This room includes the latest and advanced computer equipment.

The Village held a variety of enrichment activities including a musical school, a football school, a chess class, a singing group, a puppetry class and more ...

In the Village, there is a “soldiers Home” for our graduates homeless soldiers. The House was built thanks to a generous contributions received from a family from Mexico. This Soldiers’ apartment houses 12 graduates who come and stay there on Saturdays, holidays and during their vacations.

A “Friends of the Village” citizens’ group was established to assist the Village.
The needs of the Village are many:
Building an Auditorium                                 $ 1,000,000
Adding security shelters.                               $    800,000
Majore Construction in all buildings              $  4,000,000
Replacement of old furniture and equipment. $     400,000

We hope you will find a particular interest in one of these projects .

Letter from a graduate,

“To sum it all up is extremely difficult, particularly when one has so much to say. To live in the Village for so many years is a present I have learnt to extract the most of. Many people have helped me pave my way to be able to walk through the path of my earlier life.
I’ve taken with me a bag full of experiences and special moments from this wonderful place that forever will stay with me.
The village has become an inseparable part of me and a home, like a real home should be. In moments of hardship as well as in good times it opens its doors to me.
Thanks to everyone who took part in my development, particularly Razi – the Village’s director and Ilana, my tutor who helped me and supported me all the way.
Thank you, with a lot of love and appreciation.”                                            Kathy
