One out of every five kids and youth at Hamifal comes to our doors with emotional disturbances resulting from their family backgrounds. 30% of Hamifal’s children receive medication that helps stabilize their condition
A vital component of our Healthcare Program is mental health services. Nearly 20% of the youth and kids in our facilities struggle with serious mental health problems that require a range of psychiatric services. Regrettably we can hardly meet their needs. These children and youth (190) in Hamifal’s frameworks have acute emotional disorders and anxieties that affect their behavior and level of functioning. Some are at risk of injuring themselves. Some attempt suicide.
Their conditions require immediate psychiatric diagnosis, treatment and medication. Psychiatric treatment may not only stabilize their conditions but may also enables them to function at our Home/Village and school. Without suitable psychiatric treatment, these children would not be able to integrate successfully in the Children’s Home or at school. The objectives of the treatment are to ease the load of their emotional fears and memories, to identify the cause of withdrawal or regression or acting out and to discover and strengthen their talents.
With the help of psychiatric treatment, these children can hope that perhaps one day their wounds will heal, and they will be able to realize their potential and dreams – a possibility that most of us take for granted.
Unfortunately immediate counseling (emergencies) and some of the necessary medication are not covered by the Ministry of Health
We urgently need to raise all the funds required for this essential cause.
Psychotherapy Treatments - Some of the children need clinical psychotherapy treatments by specialists outside the Home/Village, mainly in hospital clinics..
Project’s cost: $ 600.- per child per year.
Art Therapy - A special therapy program for expression through art, mostly intended for newly absorbed children, in order to help them in their integration process. The therapist helps our children convey their feelings through non-verbal channels of communication such as drawing, sculpturing, ballet, drama, music, creative writing etc.
Cost: $ 680 per child per year .
Pet Corner - Most Children’s Homes/Villages have a small Pet Corner where children raise rabbits and chickens, ducks and chicks. The Pet Corner is an extremely important therapeutic method, which gives the child an opportunity to develop a meaningful relationship with an animal, especially meant for children who find it difficult developing meaningful relationships.
Cost of Animal Therapy: $670 per child per year
Maintenance Cost per one year: $9,000 for each Children’s Home/Village.
Integration Workshops for newly absorbed kids
The program takes place at the end of August . During the “absorptions days” the children meets with the couples, get to know the educational staff and find out more about the new educational framework and its activities.
The program includes many therapeutic and social activities that designed to help and ease the children’s integration in our Homes/Villages. The workshops are designed to allow them to experience positively the expected change, despite their concerns and the difficulty of the transition.
Preparation workshops for children and youth who intend to leave the Village/Home (Army) or return to their home.
Transition from one framework to another can cause stress and distress.
The child's development could also depends by the child’s abilities to deal with it and to experience successful transitions or changes in his life. In order to facilitate the separation process from the Children's Home/Village (which has been so stable), Hamifal conducts a program that helps strengthen the children's mental state through personal empowerment. Workshop topics: coping with difficulties and failures, developing positive thinking, setting personal goals, the ability to see a difficulty as an opportunity and more
Any help is appreciated and will give our children a boost to a better future
