Special Needs Projects
All of Hamifal’s children come from extremely deprived backgrounds. Most of them have significant learning gaps, some of them are unable to follow directions, and have problems with speech and/or language development and coordination.
The children undergo initial and ongoing evaluation by the professional staff of Hamifal. However 20% of Hamifal’s children need speech therapy and occupational therapy
The objectives of speech therapy are to improve pronunciation, comprehension, fluency of speech and language expression.
The objectives of occupational therapy are to treat problems of gross motor coordination, fine motor coordination, spatial perception and orientation.
These treatments help improve the child’s ability to concentrate, verbal aptitude, writing skills, behavior, and enhance self-confidence
Developmental-Functional Rehabilitation: Cognitive deficits of attention, concentration, motorial problems and speech deficiencies are treatable by physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy .
Project cost: $ 33.- per session X 40 sessions = $ 1,320 per year per child
