A New Beginning... First Steps
179children at risk and homeless children have begun their new school year within Hamifal’s frameworks The Children ages 4-14 were referred by the welfare authorities due to their deprived family background and their discriminatory environment in which they have lived. 20% of whom are children of new immigrants.
In this specific group there are also children who immigrated to Israel just recently from South America. 12 of them immigrated from Peru and Columbia, and do not speak a Hebrew at all. Moreover their families came from the lower income sector and are experiencing a crisis For this particular and unique group Hamifal recruited a couple (“foster parents”) that are native Spanish speaking, and the children where placed in one family unit at Neve Yehuda Children’s Village, all in order to ease their integration within our facility.
During the first absorption stages within Hamifal’s Children’s Homes and Villages , a multidisciplinary team of professionals analyze the unique needs of each and every one of the children. In accordance to this assessment a personal work plan is tailored. The work plan includes emotional support (to ease the transition and adjustment to the new framework), educational assistance (reducing learning gaps and expand our children’s vocabulary) and strengthening the child’s abilities and skills while empowering him/her (through a range of social activities) Unfortunately, our budget is not sufficient to satisfy this multiple needs of these children, therefore we will be grateful if you will support and share with us the costs of one child’s absorption $ 1,000
For the amazing absorption story (one out of many) which has published in the National Israeli Press.
