Afula Ilit Children's Village

The Afula Ilit  -State Religious Children’s Village

The Afula Ilit Children’s Village is Hamifal’s largest religious children’s home. It was established in 1980 and is located in a midst green floral landscape

The Village houses 92 children in 6 family units, two teen's units and 30 local children arrive daily from the town, for special afternoon tutoring program

Our aims are to rehabilitate our children by providing of a home feeling within each family-unit model. This model is a substitute for the broken biological family, and is vital for the development of the child’s personality, improvement of his self-esteem, and his ability to overcome educational, cultural and social gaps. The family-unit structure enables us to relate to each child individually, and thus help him fulfill his potential, good citizenship and independence- all this in the hope, that in the future he will be able to cope with life

We educate our children for universal and Jewish values according to Zionist religious concepts, based on tolerance and respect

The traditional religious character of the Village is expressed in day-to-day life, by practicing Shabbath, Jewish holidays, and personal celebrations. The synagogue is used not only for services but also for afternoon “Tora” classes and social activities

A professional singing group operates in the Village. This singing group has a rich songs repertoire. In recent years, and in light of its success, the group (18 kids age 12-17) has been invited to perform in Jewish communities around Europe, mainly in France, Switzerland and Italy

Most of the Village graduates integrate successfully into Israeli society. Many of them serve in the Army combat units often as officers and later on as productive and involved citizens

The needs of th e Village are many and include constructing and building projects, as well as educational and therapeutic programs that need to be financed by our worldwide supporters
Building an auditorium                                                             $ 600,000
Buildin g a new Therapeutic & Educational Center (2nd Floor) $ 200,000
Construction of the Teen’s Unit                                                $ 250,000

Letter from a graduate

Thank you for all those years in which I was raised and educated here. I came to the children’s home a shy girl and without any confidence
My tutors, who were like parents to me, gave me the best educational environment possible. They taught me to distinguish between good and bad. The village program was also part of my education as I was getting extra curricular lessons and recreational classes like playing the organ and flute and also English lessons, all of which was super important for my whole personal development

I never dared to dream of myself as a person who will perform on stage, and now I have become so successful also in my studies. Today, looking back, I know that it was all worthwhile, despite all the disappointments I suffered. I have become a grownup, independent girl who can face new challenges. Now, when I’m thinking of leaving the home, I shiver and it seems very difficult and impossible. Actually it was like a real home for me. Thanks to Etty and Shlomo. Thanks to Asher the director and to all the Village staff.” Y.A
